Citizen science

iNaturalist – Every observation can contribute to biodiversity science, from the rarest butterfly to the most common backyard weed.

Atlas of Living Australia – Open access to Australia’s biodiversity data.

FrogID – Record frog calls with the free FrogID app and help gather essential information to better understand and conserve Australia’s frogs.

Frogs Victoria – A networking hub for anything Victorian frog related.

Melbourne Water Waterwatch – Help your local river or creek by volunteering as a Waterwatch water quality monitor, and collect data on water quality and habitats in your area.

Birdlife Australia – Compiled almost entirely by citizen scientists, Birdata is Australia’s largest and longest running database for birds, with more than 22 million records (and counting).

Australian Pollinator Week – Engaging citizen scientists across Australia to help researchers better understand the plight of Australia’s insect pollinator.

Fungimap –  Record and map fungi in Australia.

Australian Platypus Conservancy – Report where and when you have seen a platypus or rakali in the wild.

Australian Citizen Science Association – ACSA is member-based incorporated association that seeks to advance citizen science through the sharing of knowledge, collaboration, capacity building and advocacy.

Australian Native Plants Society – Dedicated to promoting, growing and the conservation of Australian native plants.

Reporting issues

Environment Protection Agency (EPA) – Report dumping, pollution, check air and water quality, latest news.

Wildlife Victoria – Report incidents of sick, injured, or orphaned native animals found anywhere across the state to Wildlife Victoria’s 24/7 wildlife Emergency Response Service on (03) 8400 7300 or by filling out the online reporting form.

Snap Send Solve – Useful app for reporting issues for local councils and authorities to resolve.

Melbourne Water – Report smells, pollution or make a general enquiry.
